Our work

Makhana Cultivation

At the heart of our mission is the cultivation and promotion of Makhana (Euryale Fox), an aquatic crop with immense cultural and economic significance. Makhana, also known as fox nut, is deeply rooted in the agricultural heritage of Bihar, where our efforts are concentrated.

Bihar, located in eastern India, is the leading producer of makhana (fox nut), a high-value aquatic crop. The state’s unique climatic and hydrological conditions create an ideal environment for the cultivation of makhana, which thrives in shallow water bodies such as ponds, marshes, and wetlands. The cultivation of makhana in Bihar is not only a traditional practice but also a significant economic activity that contributes to the state’s rural economy.

Empowering Makhana Farmers

We work closely with over 10,000 Makhana farmers across Bihar, focusing on the districts recognized under the “One District One Product PM FME” scheme. Our primary goal is to enhance the livelihoods of these farmers by providing them with the necessary resources, training, and market access to maximize their production and income.

Sustainable Agricultural Practices

Sustainability is a core principle of our approach to Makhana cultivation. We advocate for and implement sustainable farming practices that not only increase yield but also preserve the environmental health of the wetlands where Makhana thrives. Our programs emphasize efficient water management, pest control, and the use of organic farming techniques to ensure long-term viability.

Comprehensive Support

We provide a range of services to support Makhana farmers, including:

  • Technical Assistance: Expert guidance on best practices for cultivation, harvesting, and processing.
  • Training Programs: Workshops covering everything from sustainable farming techniques to modern agricultural technologies.
  • Resource Provision: Access to high-quality seeds, tools, and infrastructure development, such as improved storage facilities and irrigation systems.

Market Access and Economic Empowerment

One of our key initiatives is to improve market access for Makhana farmers. We facilitate connections between farmers and buyers, ensuring that they receive fair prices for their produce. By reducing the role of intermediaries and strengthening market linkages, we help farmers achieve better returns on their hard work.

Research and Development

Innovation drives our efforts in Makhana cultivation. We invest in research to develop new techniques and solutions that address the unique challenges faced by Makhana farmers. This includes the introduction of pest-resistant varieties and advanced processing methods that enhance the quality and marketability of Makhana products.

Social and Economic Impact

Our work in Makhana cultivation not only boosts the income of individual farmers but also contributes to the broader rural economy. By supporting this traditional crop, we help preserve a vital part of Bihar’s agricultural heritage while promoting economic stability and growth in the region.
