The Patna Branch of NAFED signed an agreement with M/s Atulyam Cooperative Society Ltd., Bihar on 10th December, 2021 for procurement of Makhana and other agricultural produce in Bihar. ATULYAM, in collaboration with NAFED, has been playing a pivotal role in bridging the gap between farmers and the broader market.

NAFED on 14th Aug, 2024 signed an agreement with ATULYAM seeking its support in collating farmers produce and ensuring procurement of Maize in various parts of Bihar (Gulabbag, Katihar, Saharsa, Begusarai, Samastipur, Khagaria) at MSP. Maize produced will be used to ensure regular supply of Maize for ethanol production.

The specific roles and benefits include:

  1. Aggregation and Coordination: The cooperative aggregates produce from its member farmers, facilitating bulk sales to NAFED. This aggregation ensures better negotiation power and more efficient market access for individual farmers.
  2. Quality Control and Standardization: The cooperative helps farmers meet NAFED’s quality standards by providing guidance and support in grading and processing their produce. This ensures that farmers’ products are market-ready and meet the required specifications.
  3. Financial and Logistical Support: The cooperative assists farmers with financial management, including facilitating timely payments and access to credit. It also manages logistical aspects such as transportation and storage, ensuring that produce reaches NAFED efficiently and in good condition.
  4. Advocacy and Representation: The cooperative acts as a representative body for farmers, advocating their interests and ensuring their concerns are communicated to NAFED. This representation helps in addressing issues related to pricing, procurement, and other support services.
  5. Implementation of Schemes: The cooperative plays a key role in implementing NAFED’s schemes and programs at the grassroots level. This includes disseminating information, organizing training sessions, and assisting farmers in accessing various government and cooperative initiatives.

Impact of Collaboration:

The partnership between the cooperative and NAFED significantly enhances the support system for farmers:

  • Improved Income Stability: Through bulk procurement and price stabilization, farmers benefit from more consistent income and reduced financial risks.

  • Increased Market Reach: The collaboration opens up new markets and opportunities for farmers, helping them achieve better sales and profitability.

  • Enhanced Efficiency: Joint efforts in logistics, quality control, and training lead to more efficient operations and higher-quality produce.

  • Stronger Support System: The combined resources and expertise of the cooperative and NAFED provide a robust support system, addressing various challenges faced by farmers and promoting their overall well-being.

In summary, the partnership between the cooperative and NAFED creates a synergistic approach to supporting farmers, enhancing their market opportunities, and ensuring fair trade practices, ultimately contributing to their economic stability and growth.
